About
As the profession responsible for the long-term planning of the development and use of cities and regions, planners are central to a wide variety of political pressures. The many and diverse vested interests in their work can easily result in conflicts of interest, inappropriate lobbying, internal politics, and even explicit threats by stakeholders in order to promote their interests through the planning scheme. This half-day workshop offers practitioners the chance to strengthen the skills necessary to endure such pressures, proactively identify and prevent them from occurring, and to apply these skills to situations they have experienced or are concerned they might face in the future. Participants will complete the workshop with a thorough understanding of how professional ethics can assist them in ensuring best practice is promoted in their work, the role of power in protecting and promoting their interests and a variety of other professional skill sets necessary to not only be an excellent planner, but an excellent professional.
